He was terminally ill when they got married two weeks ago, after more than a decade apart.

The reunited lovers will be laid to rest together Thursday after both died of unrelated natural causes the day before Easter.

Donald H. Hojnicki Sr. was 58 years old and in the final stages of pancreatic cancer when he married 53-year-old Phyllis Harrington.

She was his soulmate, the mother of his son, the woman he had loved and lost many years ago.

They went their separate ways and lived in different towns, but the embers of their love were never fully extinguished.

A year ago, when he was informed by doctors that he had just months to live, he called Phyllis.

“Honey, I’m sick. Please come home,” he said.

She did.

“I never saw my mom so happy,” said her daughter, Deirdre Harrington, 21.

“It’s the most awesome love story,” said the couple’s close friend, Nancy Decker. “He was only given three to six months to live, but he made it for 15 months. That’s the power of love.”

All three met at a 12-step meeting 26 years ago and have helped each other across life’s shoals ever since…
