A five-year-old girl slipped into a coma after putting toy beads containing a date rape drug into her mouth.
Molly Henderson is believed to be the first child in Britain affected by the Bindeez beads found to contain Gamma-hydroxybutyrate, or GHB.
After 24 agonising hours, the youngster pulled through but why she had become ill remained a mystery until the Bindeez beads were recalled by the manufacturer.
Molly’s mum Melanie Henderson, 35, from Marton, Teesside, said: “To see your child go through that is just horrific.
“She was at death’s door. At that time I was planning Molly’s funeral in my head. It’s something I’d never, never want to go through again.”
Molly and her eight-year-old sister Emily played with their Bindeez craft kit, given as a present, one Sunday morning in June as Melanie made breakfast.
