WASHINGTON — U.S. President George W. Bush said U.S. troops will do whatever’s required to stop Iranians operating inside Iraq but there are no plans to expand the conflict beyond the country’s borders.

“It just makes sense that if somebody is trying to harm our troops, or stop us from achieving our goal, or killing innocent citizens in Iraq, we will stop them,” he said.

A report in the Washington Post newspaper Friday said U.S. troops have been authorized to kill or capture Iranians providing aid and weapons to insurgents as part of a new strategy to weaken its influence and compel it to give up its nuclear ambitions…
